Health and Nutrition Manager

Position Location: Nairobi, with frequent travel to the area of programming in Marsabit
Purpose of the Job
The purpose of the job is to manage the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of FH Kenya Health and Nutrition Program, including staff and financial management.
Essential Tasks and Responsibilities
Key result 1: Lead and provide technical support to the Health and Nutrition program
  • Provide leadership in the development, planning and implementation of the Health and Nutrition Program operations.
  • Formulate the general framework and strategy of the Health and Nutrition program under the leadership of the Program Director.
  • Conduct needs assessment for program expansion, review community and County requests for support and designs a system of monitoring and strategic assessment of the country program.
Key result 2: Liaison, collaboration and mobilization of funds
  • Collaborate with other FHK Program Managers to identify synergies and possibilities for integration of activities.
  • Create reporting format and manage Health and Nutrition program reports in accordance with donor requirements and ensure timely submission
  • Build and maintain relevant networks and coordinate with stakeholders working in the field of Health and Nutrition and represent FH Kenya in county and national forums.
  • Mobilize resources for the Health and Nutrition Program through proposal writing and through forming and maintaining direct contact with donors and relevant stakeholders.
Key result 3: Managing staff and finances
  • Formulate program budgets, regularly review financial statements and ensure good financial management by closely monitoring program activities and expenditures.
  • Carry out capacity building and on-the-job mentoring to strengthen the technical skills and capacity of Health and Nutrition staff and assess training needs.
  • Manage staff including performance appraisals, objective setting and mentoring while maintaining high morale and team work.

  • Should be a strong team player and have ability to manage a team.
  • Experience in proposal writing for programs in the assigned expertise area.
  • Excellent report writing, interpersonal and communications skills
  • Knowledgeable in computer packages e.g., MS-Word, Excel, etc.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with local communities and other stake holders
  • Strong network skills and donor knowledge
  • Ability to travel over 30% per year domestic travel
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Food science, nutrition and dietetics, in addition to Public health training or its equivalent from a reputable training institution preferably at Masters Level, plus
  • 5 years’ experience in management position working in the assigned area of knowledge in an NGO setting.  Ideal candidate should have substantial experience in Food security programs and in relief and emergency operations.
